Holiday Meal Planning to Reduce Food Waste and Clogged Pipes

After filling up on Thanksgiving favorites, it’s hard to imagine nearly half of all food prepared for the holiday will end up in the trash. Yet, it’s true. Thousands of pounds of uneaten turkey, gravy, green beans, and mashed potatoes wind up in San Diego’s landfills. That may seem outrageous, but 40% of all food produced in the U.S. is never eaten. In fact, food is the single largest contributor to U.S. landfills today, with each individual tossing out 20 pounds of food a month on average and costing the average family more than $1,500 each year.

I Love A Clean San Diego Announces Hire of Len Hering as New Executive Director

I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) is thrilled to announce the hire of Rear Admiral Leendert “Len” Hering Sr. USN, (retired) as the organization’s new Executive Director. Hering was selected for his longstanding experience in environmental sustainability and nonprofit executive management. As Executive Director, Len will lead the organization toward its vision of a zero waste, litter-free, and environmentally engaged San Diego region. Community members have the opportunity to meet Hering on Thursday, October 11 at The Catamaran Wine Mixer, ILACSD’s annual Fall Social Fundraiser.
