Why Support ILACSD?
When you donate today, you support an organization that has worked hard to create an environment that values conservation, preservation and, above all, education for over 50 years. Below are some of the accomplishments achieved in 2008.
Beach Cleanups- Through cleanup events such as Creek to Bay, Coastal Cleanup Day, Ocean Day Kids’ Adopt-A-Beach Clean Up, as well as others, 19,462 volunteers contributed 47,478 hours to remove an estimated 556,526 pounds of trash and recyclables from our coastlines and inland areas.
- Adopt-A-Beach
This program brought 5,315 volunteers out to their respective local beaches contributing over 13,800 hours of service cleaning up San Diego’s coastline.- Storm Drain Stenciling
- This program assisted 581 volunteers to stencil 702 storm drains throughout San Diego County with a message that proper waste disposal is essential to avoid river and ocean pollution.
- Recycling Hotline and Database
- ILACSD’s Recycling Hotline received 27,745 requests from callers searching for recycling and disposal centers for items such as household hazardous wastes, electronics, motor oil, and more. The online database handled 6,380 more similar requests. The information provided by our representatives and online database offered solutions to illegal dumping and encouraged residents to recycle or safely dispose of their waste.
- Education
- ILACSD’s education department provided 242 presentations to approximately 22,232 individuals throughout San Diego County on issues such as waste reduction and recycling, pollution prevention, and proper disposal of household hazardous wastes.

- Sempra Energy provides comprehensive support through funding several countywide cleanups, employee volunteer support, and generous backing of ILACSD’s online search site for recycling locations and proper disposal of household hazardous waste items.
- Time Warner Cable has also sponsors several of ILACSD’s large cleanups and produce and run in-kind cable spots about ILACSD’s events, as well as provides environmental education funding for several schools in its coverage area.
- Recycle San Diego, a local electronic recycling company, has teamed up with ILACSD at several free E-waste recycling events lead to the proper recycling of several thousand pounds of unused and potentially hazardous consumer electronics.
- ILACSD also worked with the Honda Dealers of San Diego to develop the Clean Earth Challenge, an innovative academic award competition for students at eight high schools across the county. Through this collaboration Honda funded over $7,700 to deserving students and schools.
