 REPORTS TO:      Executive Director


POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Development Manager is responsible for implementing comprehensive fundraising programs directed at individuals, corporations, foundations, and government entities.  Support the work of the Executive Director and participate in various internal and external committee appointments as needed. Represent ILACSD throughout the community and communicate consistent messages around ILACSD’s mission, programs, and impact.


  • Leads and energizes ILACSD fundraising initiatives, including prospecting, solicitations to individuals, foundations, and corporations, fundraising events, and grant writing (grant writing = approx. 50% of position)
  • Identifies and pursues appropriate long and short term partnerships and opportunities to meet the needs of the organization; Works with Executive Director on prospecting and solicitations
  • Fosters positive relationships with community groups and elected officials, and oversees government relations
  • Provides strategic oversight and sets goals for fundraising deliverables
  • Stewards ILACSD’s existing donors, and secures new individual donors
  • Coordinates & manages ILACSD’s fundraising events (2-3 small to mid-scale per year)
  • Oversees donor management- including supervising processes and updates in donor management database, reporting, and donor acknowledgement
  • Collaborates with Senior Director of Operations, Finance staff, and program staff on fundraising efforts
  • Motivates and trains staff for fundraising initiatives as needed
  • Attends the organization’s events when needed


  • Monitors performance parameters in line with the strategic plan and private grant requirements
  • Implements and reports fundraising outcomes
  • Plays the role of ultimate accountability for legal, moral and prudent operations within ILACSD development
  • Creates, monitors, and accounts for the revenue and expense budget within ILACSD Development


  • Assists with engaging the board in fundraising and provides support to the board and E.D.; Attends board meetings during sections related to fundraising and development
  • Attends Board Fundraising committee meetings and works with the E.D. and Board Fundraising Chair to lead committee activities
  • Updates and tracks Board Give & Get contributions
  • Manages the coordination and fundraising for annual board fundraising event


  • Understanding of environmental issues, and a deep passion for the environment
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills & experience writing grants (preferred)
  • At least 2 years’ experience & demonstrated success in fundraising, sales, business development, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience      
  • Knowledge of San Diego region (preferred)
  • Strong business acumen and problem solving skills
  • Excellent computer and technical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Commitment to working in a team environment
  • Self-starter and independently motivated
  • Experience with DonorPerfect or other donor management software preferred
  • Ability to connect with diverse audiences
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

  • Must have access to reliable transportation and a valid Driver’s License
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required to attend development events


  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs.
