Outreach Assistant

ILACSD’s Outreach Assistant will support ILACSD’s Community Programs, Education, and Marketing departments to implement programs, events and activities. Duties will include attending events, booths, and cleanups throughout San Diego County.

Pay rate $11.75 per hour Mileage reimbursement $0.54/mile (or at the current California reimbursement rate)

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-exempt hourly employee on as-needed basis

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Attend community cleanups and/or events throughout San Diego County
  • Support the maintenance and care of ILACSD resources, supplies, and equipment
  • Respond to ILACSD staff inquiries within 48 hours via phone or email (unless prior arrangements made)
  • Professional and accurate representation of ILACSD
  • Complete timecards and mileage reimbursement within biweekly due dates
  • Foster positive relationships within the community
  • Commit to increased hours during spring months March & April (Earth Month)
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree
  • Environmental background/experience (preferred)
  • Must have frequent access to email, required to respond to staff emails within 48 hours
  • Bi-lingual English/ Spanish (preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to educate, inspire, and empower
  • Effective communication skills and experience with diverse audiences
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large or small groups
  • Professional representation of ILACSD and its clientele
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to work weekends Reliable transportation; ability and willingness to travel

Community Programs Volunteer Intern

The Community Programs Volunteer Intern will support the Community Programs Department and will coordinate logistics and volunteers associated with all community events, including countywide beach, inland, and community cleanups, and volunteer programs. This position reports directly to the Community Program Coordinator.

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Unpaid Internship

INTERNSHIP DATES: Course of semester

TIME COMMITMENT: 6-15 hours per week, including weekend events

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist with coordination of ILACSD’s community events and programs
  • Manage Community Programs supplies, inventory, purchasing, proper and timely storage
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries including check in and checkout of supplies
  • Coordinate and attend community cleanups and events
  • Work with Marketing Department to promote community events including collateral and website updates
  • Fostering positive relationships with community groups, local media, elected officials, and other parties
    who can assist ILACSD in fulfilling its mission and supply funding
  • Professional and accurate representation of ILACSD
  • Assist other departments as needed

Marketing Volunteer Intern

I Love A Clean San Diego seeks an energetic, well‐organized and self‐motivated individual to intern in its Marketing Department. This position reports to the Marketing Manager and will assist to expand ILACSD’s brand awareness and community recognition.

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Unpaid Internship

INTERNSHIP DATES: Course of semester

TIME COMMITMENT: 6-15 hours per week during office hours (9am-4pm Monday – Friday) with occasional weekend events

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop and implement creative ways to promote ILACSD programs and events.
  • Writing blog, newsletter, and website content
  • Posting to ILACSD’s social media sites
  • Creating videos for YouTube to highlight ILACSD’s programs
  • Marketing research and tracking
  • Attend ILACSD cleanups, education programs and events and report back to ILACSD supporters regarding experiences.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Social media skills (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Experience creating marketing and communications projects
  • Effective oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of people
  • Professional and accurate representation of ILACSD
  • Ability to work well individually and on a team
  • Knowledge of environmental challenges facing San Diego County
  • Reliable transportation
  • High school graduate, preferably with marketing/public relations/communications college coursework
  • Photo and video editing skills a plus!

Recycling Programs Volunteer Intern

The Recycling Programs Volunteer Intern will support the Recycling Programs Department with tasks associated with the newly redesigned Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste database, WasteFreeSD.org and other recycling programs. This position reports directly to the Recycling Programs Manager.

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Unpaid Internship

INTERNSHIP DATES: Flexible

TIME COMMITMENT: 6-12 hours per week with occasional weekend events

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist with creating and posting content on WasteFreeSD.org such as general recycling information, and zero waste initiatives
  • Update and organize content on WasteFreeSD.org
  • Research recycling and donations centers in San Diego County
  • Research and compile waste reduction and repurpose tips
  • Research legislative laws concerning recycling and waste issues in the region
  • Assist with the marketing and promotion of the newly redesigned WasteFreeSD.org
  • Foster positive relationships with residents and businesses who can assist ILACSD in fulfilling its mission
  • Professional and accurate representation of ILACSD
  • Assist other departments as needed including general office tasks and outreach events, as needed

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High level of organization and attention to detail, savvy with technology
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Multi-tasker and quick learner
  • Ability to work well independently and on a team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word. Website experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of environmental challenges facing San Diego County, especially waste and recycling issues
  • Knowledge of San Diego region, preferred
  • Reliable transportation
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
