Environmental Educator: part-time


Help I Love A Clean San Diego inspire and empower youth to keep San Diego clean!

I Love A Clean San Diego is looking for a part-time environmental educator to deliver presentations in K-12 classrooms throughout San Diego County, attend community outreach events, and assist on ILACSD’s recycling referral hotline.

The ideal candidate would be a student with teaching experience and open days for part-time weekday and weekend work. Hours will vary from week to week and all work is on an as-needed basis.

REPORTS TO: Executive team

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-exempt, as-needed basis
The Program Assistant (Educator) will support ILACSD’s Education and Community Events departments to implement programs, events, and activities. Duties will include presenting to schools and community organizations, as well as attending events, booths, and cleanups throughout San Diego County on a part-time, as-needed basis. This position is ideal for an upper-division college student with open days for part-time work.

Furthermore, the Program Assistant is responsible for the following activities:

  • Delivery of education presentations
  • Distribution and collection of teacher evaluations, student surveys, and handouts
  • Tracking and reporting of delivered presentations
  • Maintenance and care of education resources, supplies, and equipment
  • Attendance at community cleanups and events, including supply pick-ups and set-up
  • Foster positive relationships with community members
  • Take calls and assist on the recycling hotline as needed
  • Respond to ILACSD staff inquiries within 24 hours via phone or email (unless prior arrangements made)
  • Complete timecards and mileage reimbursement within due dates
  • Other duties as assigned
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Teaching / education experience required
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Positive experiences working with youth and high school students
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to educate, inspire, and empower
  • Effective communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups
  • Professional and accurate representation of ILACSD
  • Ability to work well individually and on a team
  • Reliable transportation
  • Flexible schedule
  • Knowledge of environmental challenges facing San Diego County
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

    Program Assistant

    I Love A Clean San Diego seeks a Program Assistant to support our Education, Community Events, and Development & Marketing departments. An ideal candidate will support the implement of a variety of programs, events and activities, increasing awareness and exposure of ILACSD in the community.  Duties will include attending events, booths, and cleanups throughout San Diego County on an as-needed basis.

    The Program Assistant is responsible for the following activities:

  • Attend community cleanups and staff booth events throughout San Diego County
  • Support the maintenance and care of ILACSD resources, supplies, and equipment
  • Respond to ILACSD staff inquiries within 48 hours via phone or email (unless prior arrangements made)
  • Professional and accurate representation of ILACSD
  • Complete timecards and mileage reimbursement within due dates
  • Wear designated ILACSD shirt
  • Foster positive relationships with community
  • Other duties as assigned
  • General Office Support:

  • Conduct administrative tasks related to the Development Department including updating donor management database, tracking gifts, reporting, and donor acknowledgement
  • Foster positive relationships with community groups, local media, elected officials, and other parties who can assist ILACSD in fulfilling its mission and supply funding
  • Attend the organization’s cleanups, booths, and events when needed
  • Professional and accurate representation of ILACSD
  • Other duties as assigned

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Reliable transportation required
  • Flexible scheduling, including the ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of people
  • Knowledge of environmental challenges facing San Diego County preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

    OUTREACH INTERNSHIP

    ILACSD seeks a self-motivated, outgoing individual team player to support ILACSD’s community outreach efforts. This position reports directly to the Community Events Coordinator.


    Type of Employment: Unpaid Internship
    Internship Dates: Ongoing
    Time Commitment: Varies; must have availability for weekend events

    General Duties Include:

    • Market and promote ILACSD’s upcoming events and ongoing programs
    • Attend community outreach booths and cleanups throughout San Diego County
    • Manage supplies via inventory, purchasing, and proper, timely storage
    • Assist with coordination of upcoming events
    • Write blog content concerning internship experience
    • Develop and implement creative ways to promote ILACSD programs & events
